Certificate III in Aged Care Work
This qualification is primarily for workers in residential facilities under direct or regular supervision. These workers carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual’s personal care and/or other activities of living. These workers report directly to a supervisor and are not responsible for other workers.
The course includes the following units:
- Provide support to an older person (CHCAC1C)
- Provide personal care (CHCAC2C)
- Orientation to aged care work (CHCAC3C)
- Support the older person to meet their emotional and psychosocial needs (CHCAC6C)
- Provide care support which is responsive to the specific nature of dementia (CHCAC15A)
- Communicate appropriately with clients and colleagues (CHCCOM2B)
- Comply with information requirements of the aged care and community care sectors (CHCINF8B)
- Participate in safety procedures for direct care work (CHCOHS302A)
- Participate in the work environment (CHCORG3B)
- Assist in the provision of an appropriate environment (CHCAC4B)
- Support the older person to maintain their independence (CHCAC17A)
- Prepare and maintain beds (HLTCSD3A)
- Apply First Aid (HLTFA301B)
The course comprises five weeks spent in the classroom, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3.30pm and three weeks on a work experience placement (90 hours)
This qualification is a recognised entry level for the Diploma of Nursing.
